SADDLESEAT
Saddleseat is the exciting "American" style of showing favoured by the Morgan Horse and the American Saddlebred. The saddles are close contact, flat and longer so that the rider is able to sit further back due to the elevated, up-hill, high stepping gait. They have a cut back pommel to allow for the horses higher head carriage and are designed to encourage the rider to sit 'on' rather than sit 'into' the horses back. Horses are shown in full (double) bridles.
The 3-Gaited Saddlebred and the Morgan Horses show both ways on the rail at walk, trot and canter and should be a light, elevated, animated powerhouse and ooze presence but remain well mannered throughout with effortless transitions of gait.
The 5-Gaited Saddlebred has all of the above but with two extra gaits, the 'slow gait' and the 'rack'. Both of these 'extra' gaits are in fact a 4-beat walk shown at two different tempos. It should not to be mistaken for 'pacing' which is 2 beat. Each footfall should be clearly distinguished from the next. (see video below of Fame's Encore)

Both Caroline and Alex Lockhart have a wealth of experience at National and International levels of competition in this discipline.

Alex has represented Great Britain in three consecutive Saddleseat Equitation World Cups and   in 2002 was ranked British, European and World number 1 Saddleseat Equitation rider (ISSEA rankings). Alex has since retired from competing in Equitation and in 2004 was appointed as Coach for the British team.

CHESTFIELD PHOENIX- A Morgan Horse gelding owned by Alex Lockhart. This combination was undefeated in the equitation division for almost a decade and crowned Second Reserve Ridden Champion at the 2007 Royal London Show.
His division is known as the 'Pleasure' division where the horse must have a high stepping gait, high head carriage and look 'flamboyant' in movement but have impeccable manners.

EXCEL are very honoured to have in training the 5 Gaited, Tri-Coloured Stallion, FAME'S ENCORE.
This breathtakingly beautiful horse was recently imported from USA and is proudly owned by Mrs Lynn Herd of Buckin Awesome Saddlebreds, Cumbria. Without a doubt, these two will be the ones to watch out for in the coming 2009 show season.
